PEANUT BUTTER TOAST, PRE-SKOO & PAINTING!

2:42am. Up and can't sleep. Whenever I have trouble sleeping I usually have myself some peanut butter toast. Soon after the stars align and I can go back to bed. It's like warm milk for me. I think of my grandpa every time I eat it...the man HAS to have it every morning. As a kid I liked being up first when I would visit because he is always awake before anyone else. He gives me a hug and kiss, make us some toast and we sit at the table and read the paper. The routine never fails. He always wears the same white v-neck Hanes type undershirt which usually ends up becoming a mini crumb factory. It's the same way when I go visit now, except I think I make us the toast if I am up and  I am watching him like a hawk to make sure he takes his insulin. Funny how something as simple as peanut butter toast can play such an important role in memory making for gramps and I. It's our little bit of time we get together and I can sit here and picture myself at all ages sitting at the same table eating toast and feeling special that it was just him and I... So anyway enough of that, this prego is about to get emotional here because all this talk about my grandpa makes me want to grab a bag of Oatnut bread, some Jiffy and hop on a plane to Colorado stat!

Things have been pretty normal around here lately on the Kaelyn front. I wouldn't exactly call it boring, just calm. It's probably some kind of calm before the toddler shit storm that's about to roll in soon. Who knows. Whatever the reason, i'll take it for as long as it lasts! Finally got her napping again, which is why I think she is acting like a human most days now. The dark circles under her eyes are gone and I feel a little less zombie like each day. She is also much sweeter and has had less tantrums...but let's face it she's 2 so she still knows how to get down with the fit throwing, shes just giving me the appetizer version instead of the 5 course meal deal. Im sure you are wondering why I am up at this time if she is back to sleeping again...I'll get to that shortly! Since things have been decent for a few weeks-ish I decided to wreck it by giving the whole potty training thing another shot. She still hates it and has no interest whatsoever. Her mini potty is slowly collecting hair ties and dog hair. I really don't know what to do, every time she sees me coming for her with the big girl panties she cries and tries to hide in the corner.

This past weekend was pretty busy for us. I don't really know how but I filled my tank on Thursday and am down to a quarter tank already and I haven't driven my car anywhere outside of the Lakewood/Tacoma area. Ah the joys of running around a million places when you have an SUV!

Friday- First stop prego dr appt. Just the usual monthly thing but I had to do my glucose testing which for those of you that don't know, requires you to drink a sugary drink, wait and hour then have your blood drawn. Appt time 9:15am. Preschool tour 11am. The office was running behind that day so I didn't get done with my appt until almost 10am. No time to drink and wait the hour for the lab work so I had to take it with me and head back from St. Joes to meet Aaron and K for the preschool tour.

Noah's Ark Christian Preschool is where we were touring for Kaelyn and she LOVED it! Right after we walked in we knew it was the perfect fit for us. It's very small, only 10 kids and is just a school. Kaelyn was so excited to go check it out as soon as the door opened she let go of Aaron's hand, shouted "I'm at pre-skoo" and ran off with the other kids. I was sold once I saw the old school Fisher Price house and other toys I used to have at my grandparents. Ok, ok so maybe it wasn't the toys that sold me but it sure added some points! The lovely Mrs. Erickson gave us a tour of the rooms they use as well as the church where the class will have chapel time twice a month with the pastor. Her class meets every Thursday and Friday from 9-11:30. Not as much as I would like but I figure it's a good start since she only made the cut off by one week to start school this fall thanks to her August birthday. Tour was going great, then she showed us the bathrooms.... BATHROOMS!!!! We loved the place and put our deposit down before we left because the class is already over halfway full and it doesn't even start until September but, she has to be 100% potty trained to go here!! The bathrooms had big people toilets in them, which she is terrified of. Boy do we have our work cut out for us these next few months! We showed up for the last 30 minutes of school that day so Kaelyn was able to take part in story time. She sat on a mat while the teacher read a book to the class. I was starting to get teary eyed watching her sit there with the other kids. Wondering where the last almost 3 years have gone. That slowly faded when Aaron and I heard the teacher say "and this is a story about a frog and a duck" or something along those lines, I can't really remember because I think my heart stopped for a second. Now I am sure I have mentioned before that the words frog and duck don't come out of her mouth quite right just yet. I will let you use your imagination to figure out what it sounds like. I had my fingers crossed that she would just sit there, listen and keep her mouth shut! Oh no, the kids all repeat certain words in the stories and you could bet your last dollar those were some of the ones they repeated! Did I mention this is a Christian preschool in a church? I was certain Kaelyn would drop the F-bomb and Mrs. Erickson would give us back our deposit and send us on our way. However, she did us a solid and kept her potty mouth zipped. "Pre-skoo" tour was a success!

Next stop- back to the hospital for the blood work.

Home for nap time. Aaron and I treated ourselves to some wonderful MSM Mike's D's for lunch! Once nap time was over we had to stop by Aaron's parents to drop Kaelyn off so we could take Prince to the vet. AGAIN. This dog requires more work and money than our child! He's lucky I have a soft spot for orphans like himself. Overall it was somewhat of an easy visit this time. I don't think he made any of the other dogs pee on the floor in the waiting room like he usually does when we enter. Turns out he has another infection thanks to his allergies. After the vet we ventured to Petsmart to grab him some food, then stopped by Black Bear Yogurt to get a snack for our nameless child and headed home to start prepping Kaelyn's room for painting! Aaron's parents were kind enough to keep Kaelyn for a few hours and ended up taking her out to dinner. Kaelyn may have a slight addiction to all things Santa, I mean come on do you know her father?? Aka- Clark Griswold during the holiday season. Anytime Kaelyn sees a man with a white beard she shouts SANTA!!!! So far, they have always been nice enough to play along with the Santa gig. It's kinda cute actually. Anyhoo I guess some lady in a red jumpsuit sat at the table next to them at dinner. Kaelyn started shouting SANTA SANTA!!! Now it's one thing if you're an older man with a white beard and belly and people call you Santa, but this was a woman with no beard! I guess she didn't stay long. Wonder if the Santa comments played a role in her early departure!?!

Saturday- Aaron headed to work at the crack of dawn like he does usually 6 days a week. Kaelyn and I got up and headed to the island so she could spend the night with my mom while Aaron and I painted and set up her new room. We decided to stop by the fire station out there so she could see Grandpa Tom. He was so excited to show her around and let her climb into the trucks. She hated it. Screamed the entire time. Short trip to the station! We spent the afternoon painting. Well Aaron did the work. I managed to paint the trim! I ventured out at about 7:30 to try and find her some sheets and accessories for her room because I am sure that Aaron was sick of me nagging, and we had less than 24 hours to complete this room makeover before she was back home. I went to 5 stores in less than an hour and a half. Power shopping!

Sunday- Up at the crack of dawn. Went and borrowed the in-laws truck and grabbed a quick bite a Burs for breakfast. Next stop IKEA! It was a pretty easy trip but we got back later than planned and it took longer to set things up. Kaelyn was home before it was all done but she LOVED her room. Too bad it would be short lived. I was so excited for her to sleep in her new bed in her new big girl room. She wasn't, she cried and cried saying she didn't want her new bed. Seriously kid! Your dad and I were up all weekend making this room over you are going to like it! So we are now back to the no sleeping at night gig, which is why I was up so early today. I am hoping that she just needs to get used to the change. Once her room is 100% we can finally start on the baby's room. Time is running out, just a little over 2 months left and when your husband works six days a week that doesn't leave a whole lot of extra time for house projects!

Happy April everyone!!!
