Reindeer and Tutus!

This holiday season was full of crafts, cookies, and my first attempt at making a gift or two myself. Im not the craftiest person around but thanks to sites like Pinterest I am slowly getting better! :) One of the crafts we did were these reindeer spoons. My sister in law saw this on the Michael's website and we got the kids together one morning and gave it a whirl!

Here is what you need:

wooden spoons- we sell a pack of 4 at BBB for $2.99.

paint- brown or a metallic brownish/gold will work.

construction paper

plastic eyes

ribbon

mini silver bells

red balls

vase and glass beads

In all we made all 3 of the reindeer for about $10 bucks. The dollar store had a lot of what we needed. Of course I didn't take a picture of the finished product which was all 3 reindeer in a clear glass vase with red gems in the vase. We gave this to the Grandparents as a little gift from all the grand kids. The spoons came in different sizes so we used 2 smaller ones for the girls and a bigger one for my Nephew Carson since he is the oldest.

TUTU'S!!!!

The girls are really getting into dress up now and I was shocked to see how spendy dress up clothes can be! $30 for one dress! No thanks! A few of my friends had made similar tutus and it seemed easy enough, so I gave it a try.

Things I used:

Satin ribbon

Tulle

THATS IT! Of course you will need a measuring tape and scissors! I followed a tutorial on you tube for quick instructions. Just type in no sew tutu and use the you tube tutorial that pops up.

I decided to make them matching ones so there would be no fighting! They only took about 45 minutes to make. Perfect project to do during naptime! I only made two but probably got enough tulle to make 3 so I spent a little more than I probably needed to.

Total cost for both tutus, tiaras, and wands=$25.00! (wands and tiara's came from $1 store!)

The girls loved them! They were a little puffier than I expected but thats ok! I liked using the ribbon rather than elastic because as they grow you can just adjust the bow to make it bigger/smaller.

Annual cookie decorating fun!

COOKIES!!! Every year my BFF, 2nd Mama, and Sister from another mister get together and decorate sugar cookies! We eat the same dinner, Mama's famous Mac and Cheese!! I love this tradition and we all get so excited for this night! That excitement quickly vanishes after decorating about 10 cookies... then we all just whine about how many cookies we have left and why we baked so many! We each use a recipe that makes 60 cookies..you do the math. It's sheer torture and we quickly become cookie slaves.

So it's been decided that next year we will still do the traditional cookie decorating but we will make it more of a cookie exchange and each bring something different. I don't know why this idea wasn't thought of earlier!
Let the decorating begin!!! When we first started doing this back in the day we only used spoons and knives to decorate the cookies. They didn't look very pretty. We have now graduated to piping bags and paint brushes. Not sure our artistic abilities have improved much...every year it gets a little better!

Someone....(her godmother) Gave her a cookie!!!! Didn't matter though, she was stealing everyone's when they weren't looking!

All she did was lick the frosting!

So the decorating may not be the greatest but they taste good and we have fun! I always bring them into work and one year I have have lied and said kids made them so I wouldn't get judged on my lack of decorating skills!
