Some friends got together Easter Sunday morning for a little egg hunt in the rain! I love the picture below...I think I am the only one looking at the camera!
Even though there was rain it was nice to see all the kiddos find those eggs! The husbands may have hid them a little too hard for the age group we had but boys will be boys I guess. :)

This is my favorite photo of the bunch! Asking the Tinsley kids to smile for me..this is what I got!

Had a hard time getting a smile out of our little one too!

All in all it was a great Easter, we had a house full of about 20 family members which is considered a small Pingul gathering! Im glad it was smaller since it was the biggest family function Aaron and I have hosted since we have been married. It was "potluck style" which made it so much easier! Although my mom made the deviled eggs and I think I ate 4 before anyone got there! It was also our niece Chloie's 2nd birthday that day so I made her some cupcakes that I saw posted on Sarah Officers blog awhile back. (Turned out to be a big hit so thanks for sharing Sarah!)

Crazy coupon lady

Ok, I think I am becoming borderline obsessed with couponing. I know that people have been doing this for years but its relatively new to me. I am constantly thinking about how to save the most, comparison shopping and making lists and clipping those coups! I was woken up at 2:15 this morning from a neighbor taking out the trash can after they returned home from a party at a bar (which means the simple act of rolling the can down the driveway was noisy and there was lots of drunken laughter.) Kaelyn also decided to wake up then. I couldn't fall back asleep after so I thought about coupons. (I sound like a freak) Every Sunday feels like Christmas when I get the paper! I have always been a bargain shopper, most of Kaelyns clothes are from friends, consignment, Goodwill or Target clearance. I rarely pay full price for anything as it is but couponing has taken it to a whole new level for me. I figure the more I save, the more I am doing my part in helping provide for my family. Besides, who wouldn't be stoked for getting name brand deodorant for .04 cents! I want to get good enough at finding rock bottom deals so I can stock my home and also one day be good enough so I can make donations to local shelters and food banks. Money doesn't grow on trees for us and we are pretty much a single income household. My part time job doesn't bring home much other than mamas sanity and getting some adult time!

So here's my system so far, (this is still new for me) I have a binder with baseball trading card sleeves that I store my coupons in. I also have a pen pouch that I keep a calculator, pens and other things in that I use when I shop. I organize my coupons by category and I keep a copy of the coupon policy for my grocery store in the pocket, as well as a list of coupons I downloaded onto my rewards card from the Internet. I then look at the ad from the Sunday paper and cross reference with my coupons to make my shopping list. I make my list on a large envelope and highlight what I have coupons for, pull the coupons I know im going to use beforehand and put them inside the envelope that contains my list. I still bring the binder to the store because sometimes theres a better deal than what you had already planned out. Its taking me awhile to get the hang of all the different types of coupons out there but once you get it you can manage the best deals! For example, Kaelyn drinks Almond milk. Fred Meyer carries two brands Almond Breeze and Pure Silk. I get coupons in the paper for both at times so a few weeks ago I got a coupon for the Pure Silk brand but I noticed whenever I buy the Almond Breeze brand a coupon prints out at the register for the Pure silk. (im sure most moms noticed this when they buy diapers) So i went at bought some of the Almond Breeze since it was on sale and got my coupons for the Pure Silk (which i also had my manufacturers coupon for) When I went to the store the next time the Pure Silk was on sale for $2.79 and I had one coupon for $1 off and another for $1.50 so I ended up paying .50 cents a carton and got 3 for $1.50! It would have normally cost $9.00 for 3 half gallons at regular price. I know I still have a lot to learn about the world of coupons and my husband doesn't like to shop with me since im so anal about this new obsession (hey, grocery shopping is relaxing for me and I LOVE doing it alone!)

What works for you? Please send suggestions my way! :)

City vs. the suburbs....

My husband and I bought a house a few months ago in University Place. He grew up in Steilacoom and I grew up on Anderson Island. So we lived in pretty quiet neighborhoods as kids. Prior to purchasing our home we were living in the N end of Tacoma... "Proctor district" and loved it!It was the closest to "city living" I have ever been. I know it was no Seattle or anything but it was more urban than where I grew up. You could walk to the grocery store, farmers market, starbucks, a number of parks, restaurants and little shops. We loved the style of homes in that area and felt each one told a different story. I always told myself id never move to the burbs or drive a mini-van. (I also wasn't a parent when I was saying that!) At our old place you could look out of the front window at 9am and see parents walking their kids to school, and 12 you could see moms walking with strollers, by 3 kids were coming home from school and during the evening youd see the family dog getting its walk for the day. However, at night you could look out the same window and see cars pulling up to the house across the street to buy drugs (which always freaked me out even though they were some of the quietest neighbors we ever had...go figure!)Some of your neighbors were nice, some kept to themselves, some had one to many beers on the weekend and would turn up the Dave Matthews a bit to loud to jam out while they worked in the yard. There were a lot of barking dogs and we lived near a fire station so we always heard sirens. For the most part it was fairly quiet and nice but I saw something different everyday when I looked out that front window.

Enter suburbs... when we were looking at houses UP wasn't even an option for us, it was too expensive and we were set on either living where we grew up or staying in the N end. Our realtor urged us to look at this house since it had been on the market for awhile. We looked at it once and weren't feeling it. (I also had the flu and was downing anti-nausea meds while driving to each house) My day was cut short due to the flu and we picked the search back up a few days later. He brought us back to this house again and we just LOVED it! The yard is HUGE!!!! the house is modest but is twice the size of our old little place. As we were walking around we could see this wasn't just a house, it was a home. So we bit the bullet and moved to the burbs.

My oh my what a different world this is!! Some of the neighbors were outside right after we pulled up with our first load when moving in. It took months for me to meet the neighbors at the old place! We meet half the culdesac within the first week! Im quickly learning that things work differently here in the suburbs..You can't walk to anything but the golf course or schools. People park their cars in the garage, not on the street. In the afternoon (weather permitting) you play with your kids outside. Moms must wear yoga pants at least 3 times a week( ok thats a joke!) On the weekends you work in your yard, nobody has company over too late and around 5:30 during the week you see the garage doors open and the husbands come home from work. Most moms here drive minivans. (I have not broken and I still have my Jeep!) You always say hello when you see people. If there is any crime in your area you get a phone call! I mean a for real phone call! We have some of the GREATEST neighbors! They have 2 boys, Kaelyn adores them! Aaron has recently been playing catch with them in the evening and took the oldest one to his baseball practice last night. You have a total sense of community here. I feel at 26 we are a little on the young side for where we live but I know we will grow into it. I may not see anything too interesting when I look out the front window at the new place and the day to day life may be a little boring here but I think it was the right move.

And so it begins...

My attempt at blogging has begun! So many of my friends are bloggers and have really inspired me to start one.(Even though I hardly know how to manage a blog!) I think this will allow me to be more creative and share a little bit of what happens in the Pingul household! Also, this is something for me...it may end up being the one thing in my life that I can control 100% of the time. Im sure that you other mothers and wives can agree that parenting and marriage are things you can't always have complete control over and we need one little thing that can just be "ours."

Well, Kaelyn just dumped a bowl of Mac N Cheese on the floor so naturally something I can't control ended my "me time" :)
